Hey folks, welcome to another installment of Monitoring Weekly! Did you write something about monitoring recently? Maybe got an idea rolling around in your head? Send it on over and let the community learn from you. 😀
This week is the LISA17 conference in San Francisco. If you’re going to be there, come find me and say hello!
Monitoring News, Articles, and Blog posts
Monitoring Cloudflare’s Planet-Scale Edge Network
I somehow missed this when it was posted, but this video from SREcon17 EU talks about how Cloudflare uses Prometheus to monitor their global network.
FOSDEM’s CFP is open and they’re looking for people to talk about monitoring. I figure if anyone would be interested in monitoring, it’s you lot–so go submit something! Submission deadline is November 26th.
Getting a look at what the big companies are doing internally is always interesting (though not often directly useful for most of us, unfortunately). This time, we get a peek at Lyft’s dashboarding: Grafana, statsd, statsrelay, SaltStack, Wavefront, and a whole lot of custom code.
I tried this release out myself over the weekend and it’s pretty great–especially the annotation feature. Along with that, we’ve also got PostgreSQL as a new support data source, alerting on Cloudwatch metrics, and a whole bunch of other improvements.
If you’ve ever been curious about exactly how InfluxDB works under the hood, this article does a great job of explaining it. And stay tuned: there’s two parts coming.
See you next week!
