Securing GDPR Personal Data with Access Controls
There was quite the response from everyone last week about the GDPR article I linked! Seems many of you are (rightly!) concerned and curious about what you should be doing and the impact of the upcoming regulation. This article, another from the folks at Elastic, points out that user authorization isn’t enough with GDPR: you also have to restrict access to certain types of data on a per-user basis. This article shows exactly how to set this up.
Google Cloud Platform Blog: Introducing VPC Flow Logs
About freaking time: flow logs in GCP.
A Deep Dive into Kubernetes Metrics Part 2
What I really love about this article is the explanation of USE vs RED vs Four Golden Signals models of instrumentation. Quoting Tom Wilkie, The USE method is for resources and the RED method is for my services.
Sub-second granularity heatmaps and flame graphs. What more could you want?
Towards 3B time-series data points per day: Why DNSFilter replaced InfluxDB with TimescaleDB
This is a really interesting article on switching from InfluxDB to TimescaleDB to resolve some major issues. The discussion on Hacker News about it is also super informative.
No, seriously. Root Cause is a Fallacy.
The Five Whys are a useful tool, but they don’t magically make Root Cause Analysis (RCA) a viable methodology. I love this article.
The author posits that the reason on-call can often suck so bad is the frequency and volume of alerts, and I’m inclined to agree. The article goes into more detail about some ways to improve things–both human and technical.
Monitoring PostgreSQL VACUUM processes

See you next week!
